Yamaha Motor Releases New RDV-X and RDV-P Robot Drivers, Reduced Position Settling Time and Space Sa

IWATA, July 27, 2015 – Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) announced today that it will release two new robot drivers*1, the RDV-X and RDV-P, in September 2015.

With these models, Yamaha Motor has achieved a reduction of approximately 40% in the single-axis robot position settling time, while still retaining compatibility with existing models. In addition, the compact design enables a space saving of approximately 45% in the installation width within the control console, compared with existing models.

As the latest models in the existing RDX and RDP series, the RDV-X and the RDV-P support the servo motor single-axis robot FLIP-X series and the linear motor single-axis robot PHASER series, respectively. Both robot drivers employ the pulse train input method*2 already widely used in current products.

A.Robot drivers are the control devices which drive industrial robot products at high speeds and with a high degree of accuracy.

B.Pulse train input method refers to a standard, widely-used method where the motor rotation amount is controlled with a digital pulse input.

Product Features

1)Reductions in position settling time

The response frequency has been increased to approximately double that of existing models. This improvement has enabled reductions of approximately 40% in the single-axis robot position settling time.*1

2)Compact design contributes to space savings in the control console overall.

Yamaha Motor has reduced the width of the driver unit by up to 38% compared with existing models, and has also made it possible to install multiple drivers flush with each other by improving heat-dissipation efficiency. These measures have made it possible to reduce the control console internal installation width by approximately 45%.*2

3)Replacement is simple thanks to design that prioritizes compatibility with existing models

By keeping the parameter settings and pitch for installation holes consistent with existing models, Yamaha Motor has ensured that replacement is simple from both a software and hardware perspective.
